The following terms and conditions govern your use of this site.

By using this site, you agree to the terms and conditions of the site, which may be changed from time to time by posting on the site. You also agree that the pages of this website are written documents and that when you click buttons ("Submit", "Confirm", "Complete", "Finish") on the website, it has the same legal effect as your signing a hardcopy version of a page and delivering it with intent to be bound. Finally, you also agree that this agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, and you submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario.

Restrictions on Use of Site

You must not use or disclose information about members except as permitted in the Policy on the Privacy of Members' Personal Information.

You are liable for all use of it, including unauthorized use of your user ID and password by others without your knowledge or consent. We are not obliged to confirm the actual identity or authority of any person using your user ID or password until you give us notice. We have no responsibility for any losses caused by or arising out of your use of the website.

To enter this site we created a personal user ID and a personal password for you. To help us secure members' personal information, you must keep your user ID and password confidential. If you believe that your password is no longer secure, call us immediately. To add more protection we use "cookies" to monitor access to our systems. As well, we use encryption to secure the transmission of information between you and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.

Member security is important to us. Our priority is to protect the privacy of members' personal information. We use different layers of security technology to ensure the privacy of information transactions across the Internet.

We check your browser to make sure it meets our requirements. Additionally, we only allow those with browsers that use 128-bit encryption (one of the highest forms of security available today) to use our website. This means that you can do your work over the Internet and be assured of privacy.

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan uses VeriSign Global Certificates to ensure the maximum level of security with the least disruption to website users.

You can click the padlock icon in the bottom right corner of your browser to display the VeriSign security certificate information.

What is encryption?

Encryption is the process of converting information into a more secure format. This means that plain text and numbers are converted (encrypted) to scrambled code when transmitted over the Internet, and then translated (decrypted) back to plain text at the receiving end.

How do I know that the information in a session is encrypted?

You know that your information has been encrypted on a web page when you see the padlock icon in the lower portion of your browser.

All the browsers we approve provide detailed security information in "Preferences" or "Internet Options" on their menu bar. See your browser's help for more information.

We encrypt all the messages we send to you during a session. If, for any reason, the encryption security is interrupted, we will terminate your session automatically.

Even with browser validation and encryption, there are other precautions you should take to maximize your protection. You have the responsibility to ensure your security.

Recommended Precautions

The following are some suggested precautions:

  1. Keep your user ID and password confidential. They are your keys to the security of personal member information. Memorize them and do not reveal them to anyone. If your password is compromised, contact us immediately. We will disable it and send you a new one by e-mail.
  2. Always sign out at the end of a session; otherwise someone else can continue the session. If you forget, we will sign you out, but only after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Terms and Conditions for Spark


Teachers' will post only public information in the Spark Community. If your communication relates to a Plan Member's specific benefits or account, please contact Employer Relations by sending a correspondence in TIM or calling us at 1-866-867-9147.

Personal information is information that would lead to the identification of a particular person, such as a social insurance number or phone number. Confidential information includes personal information and any other information not publicly disclosed which is of a sensitive or proprietary nature. Do not post personal or confidential information in the Spark Community.

Teachers' is not responsible for any personal or confidential information posted by Employers using the Spark Community. Teachers' will remove posts that contain personal or confidential information. Employers shall indemnify and hold Teachers' harmless for any third party action to the extent such action is based on a claim that a post made by you contains personal or confidential information about or belonging to such third party.

Content and Commenting Guidelines

Teachers' is not responsible for any online information about its programs, benefits, representatives, vendors, customers, etc., that is not posted by authorized Teachers' representatives.

The information contained in the Spark Community is for information distribution and discussion purposes only. We cannot and do not guarantee its applicability or accuracy with regard to your individual circumstances. Teachers' is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages relating to errors, omissions or discrepancies in the Spark Community. In the event of a conflict between the information contained in Teachers' Spark Community and the information contained on Teachers' websites or in employer communications and official plan documents, the information contained on Teachers' websites and in Employers communications and official plan documents will govern. Any comments by or opinions of Employers who engage with Teachers' Spark Community are theirs alone and do not represent the opinions of Teachers' staff or the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board.

We ask that you follow our posting guidelines. Teachers' may delete content that is not related to the purpose of the Spark Community. Non-permissible content includes but is not limited to comments, URLs and hyperlinks that:

Response Time

Teachers' will monitor discussions, answer questions and post content in the Spark Community during regular business hours (Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET). Comments that are posted after hours and on weekends will be reviewed as soon as possible; this may mean the next business day.
